Running your business in Leash

How do I get started as a provider?

On the sign-in screen tap "Create an account", choose "I care for pets", and enter your name, email, mobile number and a password. A business name is optional.

Leash then walks you through seven setup steps: business type, services and prices, area and hours, your storefront, invoice settings, Leash pricing, and bringing in your clients. You can stop partway. Your Home screen keeps a checklist of what is left to finish.

How do I connect with my customers?

Open the Clients tab and look under "Invite your clients" for your own six-character code. Tap it to show a QR code your customer can scan, or to copy your invite link.

You can also tap the plus button at the top right of the Clients tab, enter the customer's name, contact details and pets, leave "Send an invite now" switched on, and tap "Add client" at the bottom. Your phone's own text or email app then opens with their personal link ready to send.

Customers you add wait under Invited and move to Active once they join.

How do I book a visit for a customer, and how do I answer a booking request?

On the Calendar tab tap the green "+ New" button, choose "Walk or visit for a client", then pick the customer, the service, and the day and time, either just once or weekly.

A customer who is on Leash gets a request to accept, and it shows as waiting on your calendar until they do. For a customer who has not joined yet, it goes straight onto your calendar.

When a customer asks you for a booking, it shows as a booking request card at the top of the Calendar tab, in the Day view. Once you have finished or closed your setup checklist, it also appears on your Home screen under "Needs your attention". Open it and tap Accept, "Suggest a change" or Decline. Nothing is booked until you accept, and one Accept covers a whole repeating request.

How do I change or cancel a visit, and what happens if a customer cancels late?

Open the visit from your Calendar and tap "Change time" or "Cancel walk". For a customer who is on Leash, a new time goes to them as a request, and the visit stays put until they accept. For a customer who has not joined yet, the time simply changes on your calendar.

You set your cancellation rules under More, then "Invoice settings", in the Cancellations section: how long before a visit cancelling stays free, and what share of the price a late cancellation costs. Then tap Save at the bottom of the screen, or Next if you are still in first-time setup. Nothing is kept until you do.

A customer who cancels a booked visit inside that window is told it is a late cancellation and chooses between paying your late cancellation fee or the full price. The amount is added to their next invoice from you.

How do I do a walk, add photos and send the walk report?

On the day of the visit, open your Calendar, find the visit and tap "Start walk", check who is walking, and tap "Start walk" again. The button only shows on the day of the visit and after the visit is booked. Once your setup checklist is finished or closed, your next walk of the day also has a "Start walk" button on Home.

While you are out, Leash shows a timer and, if you allowed location and keep Leash open on the screen, your distance and a map of your route. Under each pet's name you can mark Pee and Poo and tap Photo to take a picture.

When you are back, press and hold "Hold to end walk". Answer Pee, Poo and "Any issues or concerns?" for every pet, add a note if you like, and add more pictures with "Take a photo" or "Choose a photo", up to 10 photos per walk.

Then tap the button that starts with "Send report to" followed by your customer's name. You can tap it once every question is answered. Your next walk unlocks only after the report is sent.

How do I send invoices?

Go to More, then Invoices. Each walk lands on a draft invoice once its report is sent. Open a draft, tap any line to edit it or add a service or a discount, and tap Approve.

Back on the Invoices list, tap the Send button for your approved invoices. Your customers see them in Leash right away. A sent invoice can no longer be edited.

For a customer who is not on Leash, open the invoice and tap "Print invoice" or "Share PDF" to print it, or to text, email or save it from your phone.

How do customers pay me?

Customers pay you directly, outside Leash. Under More, then "Invoice settings", in the Payment methods section, switch on the ways you accept (cash, check, Zelle, Venmo, Cash App or PayPal) and add your details. Then scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap Save, or Next if you are still in first-time setup. Nothing is kept until you do. After that they show on the invoices you send.

When a customer taps "I've sent payment", the invoice shows "Payment sent" on your Sent tab. Check that the money arrived, then tap "Mark as paid", or "Not arrived" if it did not.

You can also mark any sent invoice as paid yourself and pick how you were paid.

How do Leash fees work?

Customers always use Leash free. Providers pay a flat fee only when a service is completed: $2 for a service priced up to $50, $5 for a service priced over $50 and up to $100, and $10 for a service priced over $100. Pack walks count as $2 for the first home and $1 for each extra home, and multi-day stays count per day.

New providers start with a 30-day free trial, with no card needed. Right now nothing is charged at all: Leash only counts the fees, and you can see the running total under More, then "Account and Leash billing". You will be told before anything is charged.

For pet owners

Using Leash with your provider

How do I get started as a pet owner?

On the sign-in screen tap "Create an account", choose "I have pets", and enter your name, email, mobile number and a password.

Leash then takes you through your pet's profile in five steps: basics, health, behavior, walks and home, and feeding. You can tap "Finish later" at any time, but four quick safety questions (health conditions, contagious illness, approach with caution, and bite history) must be answered before your first booking.

Leash is free for pet owners.

Some answers below use the Calendar, "Gallery & reports" and Invoices tabs on My Pet. If My Pet still shows the Welcome to Leash screen, tap the X on your pet's profile card first. The tabs appear after that.

How do I connect with my provider?

If your provider gave you a code, tap "I have a code" on My Pet, or go to Account, tap "Connect a walker" and then "I have a code". Type their six-character code, scan their QR code, or copy the invite they sent you and paste it. Leash shows you whose code it is, and you tap Connect to confirm.

If your provider is not on Leash yet, go to Account, tap "Connect a walker", and choose "My walker isn't on Leash yet" to send them an invite from your phone. You can also browse Leash Street to find a provider.

Connecting shares your pets' profiles and vaccine records, your name and contact details, your home address and your emergency contact with that provider. Your entry notes and door code are not shared until you switch that on yourself.

How do I book a walk or visit?

On My Pet tap "Book a walk", choose a service, tick which pets are going, pick a day and time, and tap "Send booking request".

Nothing is booked until your provider accepts, and a same-day request needs at least 30 minutes' notice. If your provider adds a visit for you instead, it shows on My Pet for you to Accept or Decline.

You pay nothing when you book. The visit is billed later on your provider's invoice.

How do I change the time of a visit, and what if I need to cancel?

On My Pet open the Calendar tab, pick the day, and tap "Change time" or "Cancel walk" on the visit. A new time goes to your provider as a request, and the visit stays where it is until they accept.

Cancelling is free up to your provider's cutoff, which the cancel screen shows you. Inside that window it is a late cancellation, and you choose between paying your provider's late cancellation fee or the full price. That amount is added to your next invoice from your provider.

How do walk reports work?

After a visit your provider sends a report, and you find it on My Pet under the "Gallery & reports" tab.

Tap a report to see the start and end times, how long and how far the walk was, a map of the route when one was recorded, each pet's Pee and Poo answers, any issue your provider noted, their note and the photos.

If something was not right, tap "Report a concern" at the bottom. It goes privately to your provider and is not posted as a review.

Where are my pet's photos, and how do I mark my favorites?

Photos from walk reports show in the Gallery on My Pet, under the "Gallery & reports" tab, with your Favorites first and your latest photos below.

Tap any photo to see it larger, then tap Favorite to mark it with a heart. You can add your own pictures with "+ Add a photo", and your provider can add photos to your gallery too.

How do I pay my provider?

Open My Pet and tap the Invoices tab to see what you owe, then tap "View invoice details" to see every line.

You pay your provider directly, outside Leash, using one of the ways they list on the invoice, such as cash, check, Zelle, Venmo, Cash App or PayPal. After you have paid, tap "I've sent payment" and pick how you paid. The invoice shows "Payment sent" and turns to Paid once your provider confirms the money arrived.

You can also tap "Download PDF" to keep a copy, or "Ask about this" to message your provider about the invoice.

Is my home access information private?

Your entry notes and door code are not shared with anyone until you switch sharing on for a provider. That provider can then open them only around a booked visit, and the code hides again after a short time. You can see each time the code was looked at, and you can switch access off whenever you like.

During the beta, please use a made-up code. The app asks you to wait with real door codes until Leash has had an outside security review.

Good to know

What Leash does not do yet

Leash is in a private beta, so a few things you might expect are not there yet.

  • Leash does not send alerts to your phone yet. New requests, walk reports and invoices show inside the app when you open it.
  • Leash does not email invoices. A provider prints an invoice or shares the PDF from their own phone.
  • Payments are not made inside Leash. A pet owner pays their provider directly, and Leash keeps track of what has been marked as paid.
  • There is no help screen inside the app yet. This page is the place for help.
